Sweet Treats that Baby will Love

Being a new parent can be one of the most stressful times of your life, with a million things to do you’re always going to be stretched for time. Here are five quick and healthy recipes that your little on is sure to love (no more food on the floor!):

  • Yummy Baby Rice Pudding - Who doesn’t love rice pudding? Here is a delicious recipe that baby can enjoy too. Simply mix a cup of cooked rice, a cup of warm breastmilk or formula and a few drops of vanilla extract together. Cook them slowly on a low heat for about 10 minutes until mixture is heated through. So easy!

  • Pea Purée – You can rest easy knowing frozen peas are just as healthy as their fresh counterparts, as they are picked and snap frozen at the height of freshness. Grab a packet with no added ingredients, defrost them and drain (all but a few tablespoons of water) then place in a blender and mix till your desired consistency. Viola! A tasty pea puree that the little one will love.

  • Pureed Apples – Another puree favourite that babies love because of the sweet flavour. Grab a bunch of apples, wash, peel, core them and cut them into chunks. Add all the chunks to a pot and fill with water just shy of covering them. Cover with a lid and boil the apples until they are tender, drain and then place in a blender to reach desired consistency. Feel free to add a pinch of cinnamon mixed in – some babies love it.

  • Brown Rice Cereal – Making your own baby cereal is just as stress-free as making your own purees, and costs a fraction of the price of its store-bought equivalent. Add half a cup of short grain brown rice to a blender until finely ground. Bring half a cup of water to boil and add in 2 tablespoons of the ground rice. Whisk for 30 seconds continuously, and then every so often for 4 to 5 minutes, until the mixture is thick and creamy. It’s that simple, and will save you money.

  • Baby Mash – We saved the easiest for last, baby mashes only take a few minutes and require no additional ingredients. Grab a fork and your baby’s favourite food, smash and serve. Some of our favourites include, avocado, pear and banana – but you will quickly find out what your baby loves.
